Alors que le n°1 mondial, Dustin Johnson, se présentait avec une avance de 6 coups lors du dernier tour du WGC (World Golf Championship)… c’est Justin Rose qui a emporté le trophée.
Alors que s’est-il passé ?
J.Rose réalisé un dernier tour en 67 (5 sous le par), le record de cette semaine, et s’offre ainsi un victoire de deux coups… Pendant ce temps là, Dustin Johnson faisait un tour à 77 sans aucun « birdie » pour laisser la victoire à Justin !!
“Whenever you’re playing behind someone with a lead, try and win the other golf tournament,” (source PGA Tour) déclarait Justin Rose. “That’s always my mentality. And then just see what happens. The leader, you never expect him to have a bad day, but just in case, play for second.”
Et toi, Dustin Johnson, tu en penses quoi :
“Well, it was tough conditions today,” (source PGA Tour) déclarait Dustin Johnson. “Felt like I actually drove it pretty well, other than the drive on two, which I hit a good shot. I don’t even know what happened. It just came up a little bit short. I thought I hit it perfect. But still ended up making a good [bogey] six.
“And even making the turn, obviously, I’m two-over [and still leading by three], which is fine. I know I’ve got to just play solid on the back nine. I didn’t make any putts. I felt like I rolled it good. Just nothing was going in the hole. Hit a couple really bad iron shots. That was probably the key there on 14. I just chunked it.
“Same thing on 15. I just chunked it. That cost me two shots there. And then bogeying 16, that’s just bad. So I just gave a few away. But tough conditions. But I mean, it is what it is.”
Bref, un jeu de fer défaillant et des « putts » qui ne rentrent pas, ont fait fondre l’avance de 6 coups du numéro 1 mondial.
Dustin Johnson, rejoint le club des six autres joueurs de l’histoire du golf, qui avec une avance de six coups, ont perdu… Le plus célèbre d’entre eux, Greg Norman, a laissé échapper un victoire au Masters en 1996 pour le plus grand bonheur de Nick Faldo !!!
