Alors que le 146th Open
(Royal Birkdale) va commencer demain, on peut légitimement être inquiet pour la star irlandaise.
C’est en train de devenir un mauvaise habitude. En effet, pour la troisième fois lors de ses quatre dernières compétitions, Rory Mcllroy n’a pas passé le
« cut ». Avec un second tour de 71 et un premier à 74, le quadruple vainqueur de majeur n’était pas du weekend pour le Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
Le vainqueur de The Open en 2014 va donc se présenter à la 146ème édition de celui-ci avec un manque certain de compétition. Mais il est surtout très loin de sa meilleur forme. Encore une fois son « putting » ne lui permet pas d’être compétitif et se qualifier pour le weekend :
“I knew what that last putt meant, I knew the cut was going from one under to even and back again. I just pulled the whatever off it. It was a terrible putt.” (Mcllroy said – source GolfDigest).
D’autant plus que ce n’est avec sa blessure de début d’année qu’il a pu faire beaucoup de compétitions :
“I haven’t had enough tournament rounds this year with the injury,” reconnaît
l’irlandais “I’ve missed a lot of events. So it’s been tough. And I’ve been playing catch-up all year. I just haven’t played enough. I’d love to have played more.” (source GolfDigest).
Malgré tout, il reste adepte de la méthode Coué :
« I’m frustrated, but at the same time I thought I saw some good signs out there,”
insiste-t-il.
“My putting improved this week, compared to last week. My wedge play, too. But there is still room for improvement. It’s not that bad though. I shot one under par today. I’m close without me being able to put my finger on anything specific. It’s not like I’m shooting 76s and 77s. It’s all around even par. But that isn’t good enough these days. » (source GofDigest).
Et donc sur le 146ème Open à Birkdale :
“If I go down there and shoot even par in the first two rounds, I’m not going to be too far off the lead,” déclare l’irlandais. “I’m not that far away. I’m just the wrong side of something good. I just have to stay patient. I know I’m saying the same things every week at the moment, but hopefully next week I can say I stayed patient and it all worked out. Birkdale will be a tougher test, but I’m more than capable of going there and shooting a score in the 60s and getting myself into contention.”
Alors Rory, on espère très fort te voir bien jouer et pas voir ton frère ou ton cousin louper des putts immanquables !!!
